Outdoor - Experiential Education Camps - India
Outdoor & experiential education camps are an effective way for schools to provide students with immersive learning experiences. By taking students outdoors and exposing them to the natural world, these camps can develop a greater appreciation for the nature world.
"Children are disappearing from the outdoors at a rate that would make them top of any conservationist’s list of endangered species if they were any other member of the animal kingdom" -Tim Gill
At Outlife we are passionate about conducting outdoor education camps to support children come close and learn from nature. Humans have a natural affinity towards nature and children have a a natural creativity to interact with nature with wonder and curiosity. We work with schools and communities to conduct camps that cater to learning and development of children. Our camps also include learning school subjects directly through performing experiments and observing the phenomena available in nature. Child’s experience in the natural world can be as small as touching a plant, sitting under, in, or around the single tree in sight, or listening to the sound of a bird. Spending time in a natural environment has been documented to improve life and learning in many ways. Sadly, such a connection with nature has been slipping away from many of us – and especially so for the world’s children.

Outdoor Education Methodology
The programme design involves seven strands of experiential education pedagogy woven together namely: Place-based Education, Imaginative Education, Inquiry Based Education, Inclusion Based Education, Social Emotional Learning, Environmental Education and Challenge/Adventure Education
Place based Education
Learning in place is experiential and in context. Learners become part of and participants in their community by exploring and connecting to natural and human world. Imaginative Education Learners will be engaged emotionally and imaginatively in learning. This involves frameworks to develop specific cognitive tools and pushes learning towards a deeper understanding of the fears, hopes, and passions of real people. Inquiry Based Education Encouraging questions, problems, and issues and explore deeper into specific topics and real-world problems, issues and challenges do not necessarily have immediate answers. Inquiry Methods Social Emotional Learning: Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. Inclusion Based Education Inclusion also moves beyond the human element to welcoming the natural world as a co-creator and teacher. The environment participates and is re-connected to learners. This form of inclusion will enable deeper understandings of cognitive tools, experience, and skills for all learners. Environmental Education Focuses on reconnecting natural and human ecosystems so we can appreciate nature and understand ecosystems in order to live sustainably. Knowledge and awareness about different environments and the natural world develop the attitudes, skills and expertise for critical thinking, informed decision making, problem solving, and responsible action. Adventure / Challenge based Education Adventure is fun, supportive and challenging. This atmosphere encourages individuals as well as groups to reach beyond their perceived limits, set and reach higher goals, improve confidence, increase Self-esteem and develop strategies that enhance problem solving and decision-making skills. Groups will discover the power of cooperation, acceptance of individual’s strengths and weaknesses, while learning to respect personal differences within the group. |
